Therapy

Therapy for children

I work with children as well as teenagers and adults. With younger children, I usually see the child on their own, but also work closely with you as their parent or carer so that we can support them together.

When therapy may help

Children can find it hard to put difficult feelings into words. Therapy may help with anxiety and worries, low mood, changes or difficulties at home or school, and feelings or behaviour that are hard to understand. You do not need to be certain what is wrong before getting in touch.

Working with your child — and with you

I usually see the child on their own, and I may meet with you as a parent or carer to help you understand what your child is experiencing and to support communication at home. Sometimes communication becomes blocked, and parents do not always know how best to help; part of the work can be finding a way through that together. Whether and how you are involved is discussed and agreed with everyone.

Confidentiality & safeguarding

Confidentiality is offered to everyone, with some exceptions, particularly around safeguarding for children. I will explain clearly how this works, and you are welcome to ask about confidentiality or safeguarding at any time. You can also read the safeguarding & crisis support page.

The first session

A first session is usually 50 minutes, with no commitment to continue. After I have met your child, and potentially you, we can talk about the way forward. There is no waiting room, so please arrive at the session time; you are welcome to park nearby and wait while your child is with me.
